In Response To: I just bought a Lewmar V700 ()

There are three rules to using a windlass. ESPECIALLY a V700.

1. Never drag the boat to the anchor!!

2. Never leave the rode on the windlass when anchored. Tie it off on a cleat.

3. Never hold the anchor in it's stowed position with the windlass. Use a securing device.

I am the Lewmar warranty repair guy and if you lock up you compound gear it's on you. It isn't a factory defect, it's from over loading. I fix WAY too many of these units that are damaged by GOBI :)
