Very disturbing news in Barnegat Inlet.
here's his blog
That's it. I've been following the project from the beginning.
Old Jetty
That's what I've been reading on other websites.
Dave Gibson posted a photo of the boat on his blog Oct 4.
That's awful news.
Was that taken near Kingston Dave?
Yes.
Looking at the photo, it seems..
I've been looking at that photo and the chart too Al.
I can't tell by looking at the pic
One article did say it was the northern jetty...
I looked at the chart -- that jetty was clearly charted
I've been trying to piece it together too. That wind direction isn't good.
Depending...
Tom, the more I think about this
I'm not sure which chart... but
not piers... according to the latest updated raster chart.
I think the timing of this incident/distress call likely says it all,
Good info. He may have been emboldened by other factors instead..
Rebuilding the rudder is a job that I should have done years ago
One other thing about these incidents. Mistakes like this are made all the time.
Well said Tom
Jon about those rocks
For what it's worth, according to someone close by, the boat hit the southern jetty, about 80 yards inside the inlet.
The current (at 5:30 PM on the 13th of October) was about 1.5 knots headed out of the inlet
A large boat went onto the beach on Long Island NY last year.
The news article put the grounding at about 19:00
Well, 5:30 or 7:00? / North or South? (plus a bonus for you readers with momories from you youths) ;^)

This is the forum I got that info on.
this article gives the time and location (north jetty)

If you look at the tables below the graphs in my link
How it Happened
Thanks for sharing your experience, and for your candor
For someone like me, a chart plotter is essential.
Thanks for this candid report.

This brings tears to my eyes. A sad day.
Thanks for the frank report. But by the grace of God go I.
We've all been there, or close to it. Thanks for the actual story.
Bad conditions can lead to bad decisions... been there...
Thanks for putting all the speculation to rest, Joe.
wow, how sad, all that effort put into it just for that...
