Poll -- scheduled replacement of thru-hulls?
I would say it depends where you sail. Salt water maybe add crowded marina.. (lots of electric use) maybex2
Just give it the 'whack' test.
That's actually a great test I know first hand.
Trouble with that is...
Replace them with Marelon...
PS.
Whoo. Had two Marelon fail, froze up and broke in the small part. Still leary....

Great Link Efram
Find it interesting that only Groco sells the flanged piece...
The thru-hull mushroom if bronze is still subject to electrolysis
Without a complete circuit... how is that possible?
I think that the "standard" is to ground all metal for thru-hull connections and protect it with your main zinc(s).
None of mine are grounded
I think it is an issue worth exploring...
I agree. Here's an article of interest
Reading the link...
Me too. Will go with Marelon
My Marelon thru-hulls are 24 years old and seem like new
Thru Hull Question Hydro lock?
Hi Tom...
Thanks Brian
Tom...
Agree but unless I take it into the quarter berth not possible.
We have a Vetus (I think) flap on our engine discharge
It all depends on how much more you are willing to do
You can also install a check valve in the exhaust just before the exhaust port
I'm calling out Art on that one! Marelon is NPT
Marelon is NPS...
you both may be correct
I learned two things today (and Art was right)
The flange is there for...
"handle breaking off" depends on whether it's open or closed and where you are.
Maralon (not just plastic) are fine in the right applications
The lesson of all this is maintenance, maintenance....which we, uh, forget.
What exactly is the proper maintenance?
heh. See Tom's post below. I have failed due diligence in the past.
Some of my seacocks are 50 years old, I see no reason to replace them.
As I read Tom's post above... two questions still remain...
I posted before I read yours Gene.
Here's a link to an article. No shortage of thoughts out there..
Yup, due for hauling this year...
Gene, It's not hard if you don't
I would replace them with proper seacocks
OK I'm going to replace these thru-hulls, so next question
Larry, how long have these been working for you?
10 years. That's kind of where I'm leaning right now...
I don't like Marelon but it has worked for some. My sense after years of....
My suggestion...
Reminds me of the "Hong Kong Dong" jokes
Two inch buildup means...
I used delrin pads
About the capped "T"?
Nice setup. Wow.
Might want to watch
The chandlery that put the R in maine also carries them....
Good to know Nat....
I would use G10...
