We have a Vetus (I think) flap on our engine discharge

Our stern is "square" to axis of the boat, but I think with your canoe stern you would get adequate rear pressure.
As Brian says, it usually isn't an issue with a proper installation; however, if you want to be sure, look into those flaps.

- It all depends on how much more you are willing to do
- You can also install a check valve in the exhaust just before the exhaust port
- I'm calling out Art on that one! Marelon is NPT

- Maralon (not just plastic) are fine in the right applications
- I would replace them with proper seacocks
