Jon's hunch could be right

The first year I used vector charts I almost put my boat on a granite reef because I set up a course while zoomed-out, and that little critical detail was missing. It was an oh-shit moment I'll never forget when I noticed the reef just breaking the surface about 25-50 yards abeam! (Yikes!)

Since then I prefer to use raster (my PC nav software gives me the choice), but when I use vector charts on the CP I ALWAYS zoom way in and check the entire course screen-by-screen for hazards.

Yes, whole islands can disappear using zoomed-out vector charts.
