We will. I'm in their supporting group. No doubt, having sailed with babies gives me a different perspective.

And seasickness, the family dynamics on a boat, as well. That will never fit the 'rules'.

Nice counterpoint in yesterday's NYT re the REBEL HEART saga...
Nice article. And then there are the bottomfeeders, like the emails you showed
Those people have been abused
Why when someone is down, it brings out the bully in some people, is beyond me.
Fine article. She gives you the sensual experience a kid surely takes away from that life.
And REBEL HEARTS last blog post, the mental aftermath.
Good post, good blog...
"Their" dream, or "HIS" dream...? (grin)
Jon, you've never had "moments" on a passage?
Certainly, all the time...
Hmmmmm I do have to admit I enjoy sailing for the sake of sailing...
Haven't heard that word for almost 20 years
Me too. Definite role separation on my boat...
interesting Larry
I admit
That is similar to our situation...
PLB vs. VHF
Coastal or bay: VHF, offshore: PLB, but why don't they have both?
I have the same impression about jacklines
people die using jacklines
High Lifelines (again)
Interesting Charlie
yeah Multiple clip-ins also good with dual tethers
Starzinger make a pretty good argument that you only need the short...
Gonna be hard to rig on my boat - have to add the shrouds first!
High lines......
You mean you guys are sailing with less passionate and capable sailors? Are you mad!
Sorry, Tom - but I think "sailed the west coast" might be overstating it just a tad... (grin)
I'd have fun in there
Larry, do they use 'sand lines' on moorings on the east coast?
The only places I see sand lines
As compared to my ex, who did several multi week single hand sails, including one sit out through a hurricane
When friends Iain and Fiona got into a desperate fix, Fiona took over.
One experienced, one not. A first? Tania Aebi, no experience. Mistake?

Funny... we are all inexperienced until we get there.
Jon the reality is that the 26 miles to Catalina is only from one spot on the coast...
Sure, Gene - I've spent a fair amount of time in SoCal, I'm somewhat familiar with the layout of the area... (grin)
Not really a hint. I haven't analyzsed their blogs.
"As ready as most for their first ocean crossing", huh...?
Well I was reading their blogs for a month or so before this happened
...and mine as well. Her MOB drill-step 1, untie the dinghy.
Interesting
Statistically, I think a car accident is only a matter of time.
That's a pretty good plan, Tom...
Not a bad plan, if you are towing a dinghy.
My rules only work for me. We're never offshore more than a couple days.
I tow my inflatable--once upside down
I had a friend do that in Penobscot Bay with his inflatable. He had an 8hp Nissan on it.
Quite a financial set back to get over. I hope they still have the dream.
i'm not sure it was 'they', although
Lots of folks have stepped up to help...
