And given that the whole purpose of a satphone is to have contact when you are otherwise off the grid, it's not reasonable for satphone carriers to make changes with short notice and where the consequence is the phone no longer works. At the very least this lawsuit could help shed light on this issue and give the carriers reason to be more thoughtful in how they implement system changes in the future. I imagine the carrier's contract limited their exposure for consequential damages, so there will be legal issues to argue and no way to predict the outcome.
