I can hardly think of one significant consumer safety advance that hasn't come about except a a consequence of a horrific failure in either omission or commission which was brought to the attention of the manufacture if not by a lawsuit. If we are of the mindset that big business or any business will self correct by market forces alone..that is build a better mousetrap and people will beat a path to your door .. You will be long dead and gone if history is any measure.
Win or lose the heightened sensitivity of manufactures of rescue devises from cutting off of a vital service without proper safeguards will resonate as it has done here, all to our mutual and societal advantage.
Some here are excellent sailors, excellent engineers, excellent problem solvers. That is not mutually excessive to being limited human beings, shirt sighted, arrogant, selfish and bitter. Some may argue those indivual traits lead them to solitary lives on boats, meaning no disrespect to my friends here who have skills I can only envy.
