You seem to think you know a lot about me, though we have never met. We are clearly going to disagree on social and individual responsibility (I am learning more about you too, based on your responses here). I'll be interested see how the suit is settled. But I'll bet a beer that it won't be a judgement for the plaintiff after a trial.
For my part, I don't believe in a fool proof world, nor do I believe in a world where blame must be assigned and compensation extracted for any and every misfortune. This isn't just a theoretical notion, I have practiced what I preach and I doubt I will be in your office any time soon.
Unfortunately, someone complaining and acquiring a legal advocate for that complaint is not harmless to me, generically. I suffer the consequences in the stupid safety interlocks, inane warning labels, increased product prices, unavailability of some products at all, increased fine print in user agreements, etc., due to the prosecution of these complaints. There are consequences not just of corporate misdeeds, but legal ones as well.
But we have strayed a bit off topic. This isn't about you or me, it's about whether the sat phone company should be buying the Kaufmans a new boat, eh?
