Yeah this is the Jesus pump... I have no reason for it otherwise. I am looking at 800GPH with a float switch. I'll have to wipe the dust off the thing now and then.
I have a manual pump in the cockpit, and a normally dry bilge. I also have a portable pump.
This new electric pump is just to satisfy the insurance company... this was the one "flaw" cited in the insurance survey. I expect it to never be used, (knock on wood) but it is better to have it than not. The irony is that this then puts a live electric circuit on the wrong side of the main switch... which would seem like an insurance company issue too.
I would locate a fuse right at the connection to the battery, and only connect it to one battery... thus I still have a backup battery. At the dock, I am on a charger. Batteries are isolated from one another.
Someone mentioned a counter... that would be a good idea, should the thing ever go into action... and I think a silence-able alarm would be good, just in case I am on deck and taking on water I don't know of, at sea.
