We sold everything we owned that we didn't need for cruising and moved what we did need onto the boat. Everything we own right now is with us, and it isn't much (although enough to cause the original topic of this thread). We are very much enjoying ourselves - it is not a one-way ticket, but if something forced us back to a permanent land dwelling right now, we have no idea where we would go or what we would do. Nothing there interests us.
BTW, selling, giving and throwing away everything we had accumulated in the past 30yrs was absolutely the most liberating thing we ever did. It was unbelievable the boxes of "treasures" and "keepsakes" and other stuff that we had completely forgotten even existed and hadn't seen in decades. Once we did the emotionally painful act of getting rid of all that, it was like heavy chains were lifted from us and we felt liberated to go anywhere and do anything. Literally - there was a real, emotional, overwhelming physical sense of complete freedom that washed over us right after the point of no return was achieved.
A microsecond before that, though, was a nanosecond of sheer panic and second thoughts as the stuff left our sight…
