Good idea on the cloth.
In Response To: In addition to epoxy... ()

I was thinking I would just epoxy coat but the extra effort would be worth it in finish and longevity.

I do plan to fit but not final-fasten the sole plywood to the well. As I build, I'll remove the sub-sole, for access, when needed. I want to add a 'grub' of teak around the teak sole perimeter, that will keep the well sides raised a bit above the teak sole waterline(as I have now).

I'm thinking to epoxy the teak decking, caulk decking-dry-sand, with the sub-sole removed, on horses. That will also be the time I'll install the binnacle, cable blocks-etc. Once everything is installed, then-unbolt the binnacle and final fasten the complete sole-with screws and epoxy- through the teak grub and into the cockpit well sides.

In my head, the entire cockpit will be suspended in my shop, on blocks, to make it adjustable(up/down, flip over, etc), for comfortable work. There is so much fiddly work involved from locker tops to rain scuppers to teak decking.

'If' it goes as planned,....after the new cockpit is lowered into place-fastened-I hope not to have much more to do onboard other than to fit the final teak margin pieces to the coamings and cabin back-caulk the seams(assuming I can template-fit the finished cockpit to an 1/8-3/16" undersized for reasonable dropping in). It won't go that well, I know, as I also have a few structural supports to fit or re-use existing. But I believe I can build a stronger cockpit than the original design that will not require as much support to the hull.

Even with locker tops removed, manhole cover, binnacle, it will be a pretty large piece to get up out of a truck and drop onto a ledger strip I plan to install all around the waiting cockpit-less, void. I haven't tried to predict a weight yet. I may have to hire a small crane.

Then there will be reconnections of all kinds to do. As the boat is outside, I simply don't have the time in reasonable weather, to do much more.

I appreciate your advice.
