This boat is about 20 years old. You can see the grain of the growth rings standing up above the softer inner material of the stock. Great grip.

I'm studying these different decks for design of the planking. The size, the orientation, and how they treat the cockpit lockers, trim etc. There is no standard I see. Each builder his own artist. I'm sort of settling on very little trim and margin board use. I prefer the spare lines without all the busy trim work. I like the clean line of lockers that almost disappear into the pattern like this little locker in the photo. But I have draining scupper issues to deal with which require some trim.
