I have heard that fasteners are tougher; but I know not.

Obviously, as noted below, it's a great decking material which works great on natural decks.

I've heard you can varnish it and it's pretty good. I'd wonder about trying to "changed" down or up (i.e., oil, then try to varnish -- or vice versa) would work. What makes it so desirable might make it tougher to deal with later.

I'd also be leary of using acid cleaners. I think you either decide to keep it varnished or decide to occasionally oil it. The other option to let it simply go "grey" is the other way. But afterwards, I think you'd find it more difficult to change later than teak.

IF I had an exterior building deck (or wood steps) and if I wanted wood AND if budget wasn't an issue, then I think it's probably the Mercedes Benz of materials.
