My tiny fridge draws 3 amps, yet here in Connecticut I need 175 watts of solar to stay ahead of it and leave it on full-time at the mooring -- so I can have a cold one at any time. That makes it very expensive beer. ;)
When we cruise we use the fridge for convenience -- and to keep the most perishable foods cold when we can't get ice, but we have a huge ice box also... and consider that our primary cold storage.
It's nice to have a "plan b" when you can't get ice, but you WILL get into the $$$ cycle of feeding amps to it. Solar and wind power don't come cheap, and your big house bank will start to seem smaller.
Of course you could always buy a Honda or Yamaha inverter generator and anchor next to Tom Young. ;)
