Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

I have two Tecnautics Inc. and love them.

I have one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer. We have never had a single problem with either one and it's going on 5 years. I charge my 2 4D AGM batteries with solar, wind, diesel generator and alternator(s). You could certainly go with one combination freezer/refrigerator set up like most people have and use half the power I do. I have both because I like my ice cream, not to mention the system is set up to be redundant. I can keep the freezer going if I loose either of the compressors. They each burn about 4 amps with a 60% duty cycle. I wouldn't even consider cruising no refrigeration system. Extended cruising is like living anywhere. Most people wouldn't want to live full time lugging ice home after a long day of work or play. I know the argument for simplistic cruising but it doesn't wash with me. I want to be comfortable. As always, IMHO
