Unless you're out of the norm cruising is always doing with less than you would on land. We've met people who have been cruising for years and really can't live without their ice-maker so your post is a valid one.

For us, I won't run the generator for more than 2 hours a day. We have the boat balanced to need a bit less than that. I suppose that if there was a way to run an ice maker from some new source of cheap energy we'd have one on the boat.

Naa,,, just another thing to break and I kind of like filling the ice cube tray.
