as a primary freezer. The cold machine crapped out after 11 years (worked out to about $90/yr) I had doubled up on the cold box insulation and the cooler works great for weekends, now. For a longer trip, the Engel as a freezer might be just the ticket to freeze some meat and make ice blocks...

I was looking at the 45 only because at $650 for the 35 and $700 for the 45, the 45 seemed like a good value.

Trouble is, I can't think of a good place to keep it, if I am keeping the cooler in place. So, I've been putting it off in case I get an opportunity to move to the dark side and end up with a fridge, a freezer, an icemaker and a bar fridge, too. :D
