Polyester braid has a couple of advantages over nylon three strand: it chafes less and it lays much better in your anchor locker. But it stretches less and it is dificult for mere mortals to make a braid to chain splice. And that splice is nowhere near as compact as what you can do with three strand and it won't pass through a chain/rope gypsy. I can cut off the beat up end of my three strand nylon and make a new splice in 15 minutes. That is the more important consideration to me- the integrity of that splice and the ease of use with a windlass.
