I, too, use Yale Brait (or whatever they're calling it these days) for my secondary and stern rodes, beautiful stuff... And if I can splice it, trust me, anyone can...

David, for your type of cruising, I think what you're thinking of sounds fine - I might even go with a tiny bit less chain, maybe 80 feet or so... And, like Al, I'm a big believer in using a kellet with a mixed rode, makes a huge difference IMHO...
