as long as we are on the subject... how do you find out what chain works best?

Old boat, existing windlass and rode. I want to replace the rusty crusty old rode. (that 8 plait sounds great).
So how do I determine what works best with my windlass... Of course I could just cut a section of chain and head down to the nearest WM and say "like this." But that somewhat precludes ordering on line and perhaps saving a few bucks. (is that even possible... considering shipping charges...)
Personally I am thinking about 60' of chain with about 150' of 8 plait. (we have deep anchorages here on the left coast)

- I think you COULD get by with a mixed rode; however,
- The gypsy usually has the chain type pressed in to it.
- Rope to chain splice may not work unattended
- I don't like to put weight in the bow of my sailboat, but a power boat,...
- Why bother?
- FYI 5/16" chain is about 1.1 lb. per foot.
- go with a brait rode. won't asshole up and takes up less room in the locker.
