I have a switch up and down switches at i) the helm, ii) the bow, and iii) a remote wired hand held which comes out of the anchor chain and sail locker. I've used the remote switches (intentionally ;^) ) only a couple of times -- and then after I'd fed the anchor so that the big CQR was dangling down just above the water. I've never withdrawn the anchor with the remote, even though probably could.
We have, for operational purposes, an all chain rode in front of a 50' tail of 3-strand nylon.
There just too many things that can go wrong for me to chance it -- unless I had to. Luckly I haven't had to use it in some extreme situation.
If you look a mega yachts which I've been on (where remote controls are in place), they have all deployed the anchor from the bow with radio communications to the helm. On smaller motor yachts where the helm has direct visbility with the anchor gear, I think think it's possible to used a remote system if one needs to; however, you don't want to slam the anchor into the bow roller with hundreds of pounds of force too often. ;^)
