Thanks BN... found the original SL manual on the boat...
In Response To: Most gypsies have a denomination or part number stamped into one of the pockets... ()
and buried deep in the manual (on about the 3rd page) it lists the various chain sizes for the gypsy... and tells me where to lubricate the windlass. GRIN
I had not seen the manual the first couple of times going through the boat docs left by the various Previous Owners. Pretty good set of docs actually... they just needed a bit of organizing.

- I think you COULD get by with a mixed rode; however,
- The gypsy usually has the chain type pressed in to it.
- Rope to chain splice may not work unattended
- I don't like to put weight in the bow of my sailboat, but a power boat,...
- Why bother?
- FYI 5/16" chain is about 1.1 lb. per foot.
- go with a brait rode. won't asshole up and takes up less room in the locker.
