In September, we were berthed across the dock from four 30ish footers that had been impounded due to non-payment of moorage. One guy bought three of them for a song and was stripping anything of value, including the lead ballast. Then they were taken to a machine that shredded the fiberglass into a pile. Supposedly there was a method of recovering raw materials from the grindings. The boats looked nasty and some had unmentionable dead stuff inside. I guess the cost and effort to put them right was too great even at auction prices.
Fortunately, Dan's boat is well maintained and still desirable.
