LMAO! It's all part of buying an old boat that probably should have had a chainsaw taken to it, Whaler included. Dispite all our trials and tribulations, Drift Away has taken us over 1,200 nautical miles. We really want to get on the hook though, both to save money ($3,000 a month in marina fees, on average) and to enjoy the solitude of the upcoming Georgia low country. Sapelo and Cumberland islands are just ahead.
I started the blog as a creative outlet for myself. Over the years, I've tried my hand at oil painting, guitar playing, and photography (Wednesday is Photo Day!) and have succeeded at achieving mediocrity at all of them. Writing this blog is just another outlet. I'm glad that people are enjoying it, and for some reason it's really starting to take off. It just hit 40,000 hits yesterday. Why people read it, I don't know. Maybe it's my quirky, self deprecating sense of humor that I inherited from my dad. Maybe it's that I write about our failures and set backs as well as the good stuff. My intent is to show what life is really like not only living and traveling on a boat, but doing so on an old hulk that we've all seen laying around boat yards everywhere, abandoned and neglected. Maybe it's "If Gibson can do it, anybody can!".
And to the guy who posted on another blog that we'd be sunk by Thanksgiving... HA!
