We do use the trawler lamp a lot at anchor, especially in colder climes. We have a bungie cord to tame it while underway, but electrical lighting is a lot easier to manage and we don't have to worry about the fire hazard. Besides, the lamp burns fossil fuel and the electric is partially replaced by solar.
We have one Alpenglow reading light switchable to two levels of red. It provides enough light to get around below without bothering the crew on deck.
