I literally stumbled into the fish market when I was on assignment to write a piece for Waterway Guide a few years ago. I hope it's still there, as there has been a decades-long fight to get rid of it (some people don't like the smell of fish, I guess).
And, Dave, if you get to DC, cross the river to Alexandria . . lots of history and right at the marina is the most amazing art cooperative (for want of a better word . . the Torpedo Factory.
For a funky layover, stop in Colonial Beach . . .
