Florida is tightening its anchoring laws.
Too bad cruisers aren't organized
I've been waiting for you to get to this Dave.
The last time I was through Marathon there were a lot of guys who were one step up from homeless street people
There must be a better way to deal with that problem...
But places like Boot Bay Key used to be legitimate cruisers harbours, and it went off the rails at some point
Is there any real cruising community?
What cruisers need is a Super Hero to clean up the dead beats for themslves
Oh man, now I have to clean my eyes with chlorine
ssca.org
SSCA is active in Florida anchoring
Also
From the comments...
Doesn't seem to be too onerous
Maybe not by Connecticut standards...
Not too onerous for the 1% with deep pockets
Oh come on Gail
If I had your money I'd throw mine away!
LOL!
Don't you own two cruising boats?
WHAT!!!! Two luxury cruising yachts in beautiful Maine!!!! (edit: found a picture of Gail and her Significant other)
Don't get on here case too much about that - they are both Pearsons
You're feeling brave today.
That isn't bad at all for a mooring rental
How much do they charge to anchor?
You can anchor in Boot Key harbor? I thought that went the way of the Doodoo.
Anchoring isn't allowed in either Southwest Harbor or Northeast Harbor
That includes a parking space...
Actually Dave, that $225/mo looks like it is for...
Yeah, I[m sure Dave andn Pam and others like them...
That's the sad point about Boot Key. A chunk of the boats are populated with "cruisers" living the dream.
And so what?
Doesn't matter whether on the water or a sidewalk grate
The answer is not to force them out of the community.
Marathon is piece of crap island anyway.
Vagrancy is not illegal in our country but panhandling is
You might be wrong on that Pam, in many locations
As far as squatting rights, we're talking water.... No one owns the water
Actually in DE, MA, ME, NH, PA, VA the property owner has rights out to the mean low tide mark
Hahaha, I love the tee....
Excuse me Larry, but isn't that what she just said?
Yes you're right. This time it was me who mis-interpreted what Pam wrote.
We should certainly hope not!
No honey, we're not vagrants. We're trawler trash.
ah hem... "White Trawler Trash"
You must have some source of income...
Well, i have a checkng and savings account, vut I have no job except panhandling David for money....
Seen Your Picture ...
I Did Not Post The Above
Exactly. I don't consider that income.
I just read that quickly... you're part of the 0.1%
WOW!!!!!
all I need is to hang out at a marina with a cardboard sign reading "will rig for food" and I'm in!
How about, "will work on boat for food", got work here for you!
You would probably be the fattest rigger out there!
Maybe this picture fits in here...
And when the city homeless moves on, there's a cardboard box to clear out. When your buddy moves on
Or how's this for another analogy.... what if some drug addicted Schizophrenic parks his mini Van in front of
I don't dispute they need to be able to pump out
So you think the guy in the rat hole boat is paying for pump outs?
That'd ruin the morning bucket dumping!
So it gets hauled out and junked..... Seriously, for someone in the marine
Florida Marine Patrol is overseeing some of that
"they weren't allowing any salvage of parts."
Yeah- I thought it dumb too.
Sometimes that's because the guys working there take it for themselves.
Rat holes are rat holes regardless of owned by rich or poor.
There for the lack of 'personal accountability' go I
And for those people, there should be some type of blight control
Let's try this approach... do think it's okay to allow dangerous and polluting boats to crowd popular public harbours?
Well, we know they aren't supposed to pump overboard,
Do it like Marathon does ....
yep, that is a great service to have pumpout boats
as does Fort Myers Beach- as part of the mooring fees
As I understand, the right to anchor is limited to federal waterways.
'masses' as in 'tumors' or 'uncontrollable growths'?
Good luck trying to stop the uncontrolable growth
land yachts (RV's) pay near $2000.00 per month for the same privileges there in Marathon...
Perhaps You Can Contribute a Few Bucks Then ...
The daily rate is too high
have you all left the cape yet?
Not yet
6'9" isn't bad. On the edge but not bad
Time to move on, Dave – get away from those Prophets of Doom while you still can…
Then it seems holding them to some standard
The difficulty is the myriad of applicable laws and authority
In our home community, there were church groups
sounds like you just started the group movement. be sure to bring your scrub brush with you on your way down Pam!
...
Hardy har har... Really, though, I would be more than happy to pitch in if it would help.
Is anyone actually living on that boat?
It's great to get real time reports.
Yeah, these are very difficult issues, that become easily confused...
I was in Boot Key in '82 for a month, again in 2010. HUGE difference in the water
Must add- in 82 I was one of three boats and one private mooring
Having just returned from a 2 year cruise
heh. You always got a spot here, Charlie.
LOL- Ready to watch the sunrise from my front deck again Westy?
I'm gonna hold out for warmer weather...shoulda snowbirded this year.
Thumbs up for the Loreli!
Yuck.
