You could also buy a 1962 Pearson Bounty II, the first large production glass sailboat, #1 unveiled in 1957 at the New York Boat Show, for 27,500.00(sounds like a bargain). A 38' Pearson Invicta sold for 26,500.00
You could buy a 1962 Lecomte Northeast 38 for 26,250.00 LeComte would finish a few Alden Challengers(all the hulls and decks were built at Halmatic in the UK), and sell one of those for 34,450.00 in 1962.
In 1950, there were 22 glass boats at the NY Boat show, smaller power and a few sail. By 1961, more than half were glass and all the larger sailboats emerged in the last 4 years of that era.
Amazing when you think about that in a centuries old wooden boat industry. Fiberglass must have seemed like a wildfire coming through.
