My first recollection of glass was the MFG motorboats.

We had a family 16' lapstrake wood power boat on Barnegat Bay. Those MFGs were like space ships to my eye. The other thing I recall was the Century power boats. They were just gorgeous boats, then one day the first glass Century showed up on the bay, and that was it.

The wooden boats didn't die as predicted, they're as popular as ever, and in fact today plastic and glass in combination are some of the most cutting edge boats now.

I remember the Ensigns too. I learned to sail on a plywood Sailfish my dad built. When Alcort(I think) built the Sunfish, the Sailfish became an anachronism.
