one of my first thoughts.

Mine got pulled during other maintenance that I was doing. I had to go to it and loosen the cable lock nut and insure the cable was fully released so it was in the "engine run" position.

BUT, if the WD-40 did nothing, It might be something more drastic. Like a bent connecting rods, but that could ONLY take place if it was trying to start with water in the piston bore.???? Hydraulic lock??? However, I have never tried the WD thing with the engine stop pulled, so I could be way out to lunch?????
