they went out of their way to make it more restrictive and more complicated than it had to be. If the water was injected farther downstream the elbow could have been a simple U shape and less restrictive. I suppose they wanted the elbow to be cooled so it wouldn't need lagging to prevent burns. But running it cooler means getting the buildup that causes the blockage.
