The old lids have the same channels or scuppers as they're called. But they're shallow and narrow. Plus, there is little provision for the lids to have edges that will lead water straight into the scupper. I intend to achieve that with a 1/4" rim around the lids that will give an edge for the water to cling to to instead of adhering to the bottoms of the lockers and migrating around.
The channels also support the locker lids, or will in my case. A little tricky getting that to work on the hinge side but I think I can do it.
The other thing, I'll make the scuppers deeper which will make them more effective and a bit wider. Unless you can easily clean out the channels, they can clog with junk(dog hair for instance). I've put a lot of thought into the drains. The outer ones I will plumb simply because I have deck drains on the side decks that are plumbed into a channel that is glassed inside the hull, to a drains just below the waterline. They have T's ready to use for the cockpit deck scuppers.
