frightening example....

We had a similar, but more basic experience. We were anchored in a small bay in the Sea of Cortez. A LONG way to any help.

Over the VHF we heard a call for help, not a mayday, just a plead for help. We could not see the boat, but could hear him, and another boat.

The boat calling for help was having engine problems with his diesel. The other boat (and I) tried to help him with some trouble shooting ideas. He then informed us that he was not fixing it himself! He wanted a diesel mech to come to the boat to fix it for him! I asked if he knew how far we were from ANY city that might have a diesel mech. He condescendingly told me that he had the money so it should not be a problem.

Having worked all my life to be able to retire and putting up with some bosses that were turds by any standard, I assured myself he was in no real danger, and decided I did NOT need to work for another &%^$@*%^ and declined to try to fix his engine, for ANY amount of $$.
