What's happening to Cruisers?
The thorny path will kill any sailors...
Yep. Weeks beating is not the best first offshore experience.
The 'Thorny Path' is mostly day sails
And much of that is motoring for many.
Being from outta town.....what's the "Thorny Path"?
Daysailing mostly into the current and trades
We took 8 weeks to get from Florida to the VI
Nice Pic but....
I have a friend who says "You Can's Kiss All The Girls"
Daysailing mostly into the current and trades
Florida always had a lot of boats that are shattered dreams
My view...
In a nutshell... (damn, these new subject lines are WAY too short...
And go...
There's the problem ...
The problem with this BB . . . .
Problem is, having a crew that "loves" sailing is not always an option
This is part of my newest strategy with maybe buying a small Cal 20
I have been "discovering" the same thing
My favorite little boat
It can't hurt if the spouse enjoys sailing
I agree. Cruising isn't just about sailing, or vice versa.
Exactly - that's why most couples will not succeed in the long run...
You just need to find the right woman
Of course - but you should know better than anyone, Evans, girls like that are rarer than hen's teeth (grin)
I don't think so
Part of the problem,
Good must outweigh the bad
I got one. We just had to leave the boat in Florida
True but I think it is possible to convert the reluctant
Another thing I have observed...
me thinks
frightening example....
A most excellent choice, imo LOL
That's just miserly to the point of being stupid.
Try SeaClear, it's free and works fine
That is a common story in our experience. . .
there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow (failed cruiser)
Perhaps cruising, as defined by Cruising World, is dieing?
Lifestyles change. It's hard to generalize.
The evolution of CRUISING WORLD covers says it all...
Don't have to go all the way back to 1975, dude
LOL! Or, maybe just back to the time when my own boat made the cover.... (grin)
I remember that story Jon, about your Maine winter cruise
Thanks, Larry... Perhaps in my next life, I'll manage to head south before the first snow flies... (grin)
Looks good for sailing....
Here's a good look at cruising "then" and "now" --then, 1971 on the wooden schooner MALABAR, and now, on
Pic looks more like a yawl than a schooner to me . . .
Right you are, Jeremy --originally a schooner, re-rigged as a yawl
What great story,
I did predict the daysailer was here to stay., so I'll make another,....
Kind of like a cat with one pontoon, eh?
Uhh, are you sure the high-end daysailers are here to stay...? (grin)
"High end Daysailers" are your words Jon.
Well, by "high end", I mean both in terms of cost, and maintenance...
Well first off, how much do you think a new Justine would cost you?
An industry "in limbo" is pretty charitable, seems more like "in the dumpster", to me.... (grin)
You'd Need a Thriving Middle Class to Begin With ...
Yeah Right, Lite w/ lots of gear. LOL
After cruising on our boat I've learned a lot about what I really like.
I'm expecting to pick up an Alerion 28 cheap in a couple years....
LOL! Dream on, Westie - that ain't gonna happen anytime soon (grin)
Heck, I'm picking up cans and bottles gettin' ready for it!
Well, Jon! There is always a 32' trailer sailor called Presto
Jon- you already know we cruise a pretty small boat. We constantly get told
Distinction between the cruising world and the magazine "Cruising World"
Certainly not an easy number to track.
What is ironic about CW is when I get my issue...
YES YES YES GOB...
Thanks for getting me started on that mag...
You, Greg, are going to like the next/current issue
Is it the....
Yep! That's the one . . .
GREAT! Can't wait to get it.
Steve....
You know that I can't spell or type that well ;^)
