The president of Nordhaven reflects on a long cruise on the wooden schooner MALABAR (John Alden's own boat) in 1971, comparing it with cruising now in his Nordhaven powerboat, 31 years later. A lot has changed --but then, for many people, a lot hasn't changed! 
That is to say, as always, it's up to the individual to resist the siren call of advertisers hawking must-have goods to install on one's boat...
Gotta love that old foul weather gear! Probably worked fine, though...
