I loved the engine but it was just too damn heavy. That 15 HP 2 stroke at 76 lbs was a great engine but whenever we did an overnight I took off and put it on the stern rail (the dingy is on davits). It was just too much weight to jerk around if the weather got rough. I'm not about to try to wrangle an out of control dingy in bad weather at 3AM.
We replaced it with the 9.8 2 stroke Tahatsu and although the engine isn't as good as the Yamaha it's only 55 lbs. I take it off the transom, put it in the tender, raise the tender and take it out. Sometimes I just pick it up and carry it with one arm to the deck for stowage.
25 lbs sounds great. A friend of ours had both a 15 2 stroke Yamaha and a small engine like yours next to it all the time. He would travel perhaps 10 miles from the big boat with the dink. Redundancy is a good thing.
