I'm not pointing fingers at any "demons", either... And as much as I may think modern electronic gizmos may often lead to a degree of complacency towards piloting and watchstanding among many recreational sailors today, I see no reason to believe that was the case in this incident... For whatever reason, the guy simply screwed up - the same sort of mistake I've made many times myself, but have simply been lucky enough to have gotten away with...
Personally, I find it much harder to fathom how the crew of this $40 million Perini Navi managed to clobber Carrot Shoal, one of the most popular dive sites in the BVIs, with this suite of nav aids at their disposal... (grin)
