I was talking to a friend last night, that also hit that rock.

He with 4' of draft bounced over it. He hit it pre-CP about 15+ years ago.

Discussing Archangels grounding on Camden Harbor last night, we both asked, "Why did you hit it?" He reasoned that despite going through the wide passage often(he's been sailing forever), at high tide he was way wide of where he thought he was because;

He sort of recalls that the "rock"-which is usually visible, except for hightide-, he may have "misplaced it" in his mind, to being East Goose Rock or otherwise, and consequently centered his route between East Goose and Lasell. This was repeating past passages, he thought, most of which showed the "rock" as the extreme southern edge covered in breaking water.

The "rock" is locally known in Camden as Appledore Ledge which may be so named for the local daysailing schooner, Appledore, which may have struck it as well. My friend that's been sailing out of Camden for decades, and said, there's a lot of bottom paint on that "rock".

My answer, "I was tired,..."
