Not if the slide spacing is right.

When I designed Dutchman systems for sail makers, I most always corrected their slide spacing so the sail would flake properly. Usually their slide spacing was too close, especially at the bottom part of the main.

- I was always told the best way is to "roll" the sail like a sausage. It will extend the life. (I flake my main)
