It's no wonder davits are popular these days.
I've always towed, inflatable or hard dink
It was that Canadian that made me suddenly see the value in davits.
Drag of a dingy
Would love to have davits
nets are really handy. When I sailed my Cross 35, I carried
REAL SAILORS ROW!!!!
) OR HAVE A SAILING DINK...
LOL- my newly built dinghy on launch day, trying her out
Geez, don't get me started on freakin' davits... (grin)
Hey Jon...what ever happened to that summer cruise??
Not until next year, I'm afraid...
Jon, less the "SUV," what other means could one use...
I've used both a hard rowing dinghy and a small inflatable with 2hp...
Reason I am especially interested is I am about to purchase...
Do you want to zoom or to mosey? I'm gettin' old so less weight to horse around is best from my perspective.
My only reason to "zoom" would be for distance.
The power is nice
Corrected that
So by that comment I take it you suggest going light.
Guess I got to jump in......
We have a 15 year old Avon air floor with a 26 year old 4 hp 2-cycle Mercury (Yamaha)
So that 4 HP is plenty of power for you?
Yes -- For what we do
thanks Greg weLuv our 10 ft porta
I will jump in too...
Was your roll up often wet to step into, Brian?
Not really...
PS...
It had some sort of panels for the sole.
Greg, while a portabote is a nice idea...
In fact, does anyone know of a US source of nesting dinks?
Spindrift is pretty nice
Sounds nice. The extra foot must make a world a difference.
Here's the link to Graham's website -(B and B Yacht designs)
No
Just to add some thoughts about motor weight
I agree with Larry
Actually, it worked really well...
PS: Ironically, twice I rowed out and "saved" folks in high powered dinghies ...
With boats as small as ours, I think the desire for "more power" becomes limiting, in the end…
Nice assesment Jon...
HP floor 10 foot Zodiac experience
Hmmm, I always wondered what my boat would look like
Hey Thierry! Crossed through Curlews wake, under sail and towing a dinghy!
Hi Tom,
It was nice to see you enjoying the light air sail.
No Davits for us!
Sailing, Cruising, and Living aboard....
Towing a boat just looks sloppy.
NE is a sloppy coast Dan, I'd say towing is nearly universal.
Increased engine load and fuel costs without davits

I've temped Neptune many times
Davits
There's the truth. Shipping a largish OB from dink to boat is a real chore.
Another peave
I always tow my dinghy, but unless I am only going a couple of miles the motor comes off
You'd have to pry my davits away from my cold dead hands
If you get the anchors big enough, the boats lines aren't changed ;^)))
There it is. Most miles sailed are with the drag of a dinghy in tow.
With all the lobster pots with toggles, toeing a dingy with an engine on in that picture is pretty wild
