My only reason to "zoom" would be for distance.

My thoughts on this however are that if I am in protected waters, not a big deal; I've rowed a "toy dink" around places like Avalon bay and Glorietta Bay and around Mariners Basin (Mission Bay).
But if I am anchored out someplace like say Long Point on Catalina and want to go into Avalon... just how mosey am I gonna be? And if the weather comes up a bit, will a 3.5HP motor get me back to the boat? Certainly the toy dink in the picture below would be a real joke in conditions other than flat inside waters.
