Compared to a basic laptop or portable with a keyboard and a mouse, I think an iPad or equivalent other tablet is of limited use and certainly reduces productivitiy and quality of output.

The tablet is fun to surf the web, read emails, and the like -- i.e., playing around.

Aside from that, I think that you could start wars or lose wars with mistakes that people make sending messages on them.
