I vote for seamanship...

As you said, he knows how to sail his boat very well. If the skipper is qualified to do it and knows under what conditions to do (and not do) it, don't see how it is reckless. And it is immensely satisfying to do it well. One of the simple joys of our hobby/pastime/obsession.
