And if you do it correctly, you can use a small tiller pilot to drive the wind vane and have the best of both worlds! Drive any size boat with a low cost autopilot!
Our original tiller pilot (made in the 1890's I think) crapped out, and I replaced it with a newer one that can mount to a board in the aft cabin and drive our Monitor wind vane. With it out of the weather it may last a lot longer than me!

- A recent change: autopilots have gotten a LOT better at steering in the last 10 years...
