I still don't get the silver spoon part.

Having a good autopilot and a good wind vane are easily justifiable on even a modest boat given the importance of self steering for crossing oceans and the total cost is still a fraction of the cost of most ocean cruising boats. There are of course exceptions, but show me an exception and I'll show you ten that fit. As cruisers on typical cruising boats we are either all silver spoons or none.

Personally I would say RIBs and large outboards are extravagant and it's bizarre when I see this on a boat with 20 year old blown out sails.

We each have our priorities, but by golly there are some strange ones.
