Reexamining things showed that the "brain" was functioning and that the problem was the motor on the hydraulic pump. At this point, I asked a friend of mine, Joe on s/v Panacea to get involved and he disassembled the motor, cleaned the brushes and when he got it back together, it worked!
Sometimes, it take a little teamwork.
As a postscript, the folks on the catamaran have asked us back over for drinks and dinner tonight.
This brings up another of my favorite themes. The cruising community is amazing. I can't say if it is this way all over the world (though I suspect it is), but the cruising community in Mexico/Central America/S. Pacific where I've spent my time are one of the best parts of the cruising experience.
Another interesting tidbit is that as we were working, a boat anchored behind the catamaran raised its anchor, leaving for Apia. When we turned around to wave good-bye, we saw that the catamaran's dinghy was loose and slowly drifting down wind. I jumped into my dink and retrieved it. The interesting part is that several days ago, the people in the boat that were leaving had rescued my dinghy when it got away.
What goes around, comes around.
