Used iPad Navionics apps for route planning a lot this past year

For starters, I used the track feature to lay out a general route, mostly to find out how many hours or days the segment would take. Over time, I was using it more and more to put in waypoints for anchorages, dangerous rocks, etc. Then used it for live route tracking. The Navionics charting was better than any of our paper charts and also our CmapNT charting. We use the chart plotter more in a click-and-go scheme, especially when we're threading between navigational hazards and are using the autopilot in Track mode. Often we'd have to enter waypoints from Sean and Heather's excellent guidebooks, again because the Cmap charting was inaccurate and incomplete.

The touchscreen on the iPad makes entering an approximate route quick and easy.
