My Ideal bronze winch is very similar. However, it has no working chain pipe. I fit an oval deck pipe which nearly works. You can see the windlass at the top, the oval pipe is about 6-8" forward. The windlass is mounted on a thick teak donut. I think that's to raise and line it up with the bow roller and distribute the load on the deck.

The problem for me is the nylon. I need to stuff that in first before I retrieve the 50' of chain. Are you using all chain, Paul?
