Southern Calif. anchorage with 7 to 1 scope you would be attacked by a mob and stoned. If you can get a 5 to 1 you'll be pushing it. The reality is that a 3 or 4 to one is what you'll be able to get away with. Anchoring with more chain then you would like with a larger anchor then is recommended is what most people settle for. A foot of chain per foot of boat length is the usual rule of thumb but in So. Calif. anchorages I would double that or quadruple that if you have room. On your boat I would use a 33 pound Bruce or something equivalent, Minimum 50 feet (100 feet is better) of chain and 200 feet of 1/2 nylon. Bow and stern anchoring is often used because it eliminates the need for swinging room so I would carry some type of light weight Danforth or Fortress type (also oversized) with 25 feet of 1/4 inch with 200 feet of 1/2 inch 8 strand Brait type nylon as a stern anchor. In many So. Calif. anchorages in the summer time you can hand your neighbor a drink at sundown so be prepared. IMHO
